What is the role of ornament in architecture today? Is ornament (i.e aesthetic expression) predominantly a technological, cultural, economic, environmental, or artistic task; some combination of these; or something else? In other words, if a fourth text were added to this topic what would the argument be?

Ornament speaks.

I personally see ornament representing culture and as a art that beautify architecture. Ornament speak for itself 

with meaning, ornament conveys message. The little details of patterns, symbol on the facade of the buildings, or figures meaning that interact with the ornament and architecture.

For architecture today, ornament still play an important role. Ornament can be a focus point or an object that 

show the histories and culture that may not be obvious but it can still be found in religious buildings or cultural 

center today. Some architects apply ornaments as a particular feelings or experience. Ornament have to serve

beyond art, by using ornamental art to speak for the designer.

 

The ornament could be seen more on art and craft in the past. Using unique materials for different ornament the 

best represent what is the meaning and the relationship. Ornament is a design that carry thoughts and thinking, it have its values. It does not function just as a decoration or simply apply into anywhere. But it have to be in a

The Museum of Civilizations from Europe and the Mediterranean port city of Marseille (MuCEM) is a museum that 

build by Rudy Ricciotti. It is build by concrete lace with glass walls that cover like a box. It is filled with ornaments 

patterns from top to bottom. The concrete has been formed to create a delicate vile around the building

It is also function as a shading device for interior walkways and exhibition spaces. Ricciotti’s work tend 

to focuses on skin and ornaments. He design the facade with a dappled effect that blending the building into thesurrounding of the city and sea. His design using ornament aims to communicating with users.

Ornament is not just about visually ornamental form, it is also sensible. The environment, cultures, human behavior affects the forms of ornaments either in past , present or future architecture although it may evolve. It is a pleasureexperience to find ornament achieve the purpose, making full use of it and fit in to the environment. In today 

architecture could serve beyond ‘normal’ symbolic or sculpture, by applying modern artistic or create new forms with ornaments. The collaboration between architecture and ornamental art can be achieved to speak for each other.
