FILM CRITIQUE : ARRIVAL (REDO)
Arrival is a sci -fiction movie with a lot of surprises thorough out the movie . The movie is involve with aliens,
advance science and technology, seeing the future and global conflict threatening mankind survivor.
Question 2: To critically assess the Genre and Background & Setting of the film. Did it successfully convey? And was it suitable? Could you easily understand the setting?
For the movie settings and background, it is involved with present and future.

Firstly ,the movie show present world that the main character, Louise Banks is a professional linguistics that
teaching in a university as a lecture. The movie begin with 12 black colour spacecraft with 457meters height
that touch down on 12 different places around the earth. One of the spacecraft located in a US military base
camp in Montana, America this is the location that the movie focusing on. Louise Banks and Donnelly trying
figure out the language of the Heatapods (Alien) by asking them question to know the reason they come to
earth. In inside one of the spacecraft that involve in the movie is two aliens which is Abbott and Costello communicating with Louise Banks.
The spaceship opens every 18 hour, to allow humans enter the spacecraft, inside the spacecraft is a dark rough
surface and with only a big glass for the aliens interact to the humans. Though that Louise Banks and Donnelly
start to experimenting to understand the alien language. After Louise Banks understand the alien symbols, that
only they know the alien is trying to offer help the human, because in the future the alien might need humans help

Secondly, Louise Banks start to have some image appear of her future, with her own daughter. In the future her daughter will diagnosed with cancer and pass away. And there will be a lot of arguments with her daughter. Also, Louise Bank will get married with Donnelly but will end up divorce. With all these that may be happening in the
future, Louise Banks choose to believe and accept it.
Overall of the movie setting can be understand although, at the beginning in might be confusing with a lot of
flashback scene. But I like how the movie does not involve with any guns or violence with come to aliens, Is also
show that the best solutions don’t necessarily materialize in a gun sight, but communicate. I really enjoy the
different way of representing a sci-fi movie, wondering the flashback is a future or present paradox.
