What is the role of honesty and deception in architecture today? Is honesty and deception predominantly about the expression of structure, the relationship between interior and exterior, the expression of goals and challenges of the architect; some combination of these; or something else? in other words, if a fourth text were added to this chapter what would the argument be about today's architecture in relation to honesty & deception?

Free from restrictions, standing strong with originality, bare naked with brave, honesty buildings are attractive too

in the way of expressing appreciation of raw materials. Honesty buildings have its own value as well. Honesty give us the sense of solid and strong which led to confident. When we are in the heart of honesty buildings, the space

calm our emotions, it’s like speaking naked with architecture. Ruskin viewed honest art as “a statement of certain

facts, in the clearest possible way” and as a “communicated act of imagination.”. Also from my stand point on

honesty does not include John Ruskin’s handmade art and craft philosophy. As the world grows rapidly everyday, building architecture with bare hands are too slow. In my opinion, the construction of architecture should follow and fit the technology in the current era, human and architecture should progress in the same speed and level

because architecture is all about human. Handmade art and crafts may slow down the human evolution

progress. Architecture made with current era technology shows the transformation of progress and also breaks

the limit of possibilities.

Personally I think that honesty and deceptive architecture are equally important for this world, as both show each value respectfully. Neither one of the values are good nor bad, the bravery of honesty and the beauty of

deception shows the two different sides of architecture, as well as human, I think that both value should preserve and progress in the same level, opening up possibilities for training a new generation of architecture students.

The evolution of architecture is equal to the evolution of human. Buildings, like humans, can be dishonest. In

today’s commercial world, human are more to beautiful lie than ugly truth, of course not all lies are beautiful, not all truths are ugly, but mostly, yes it is. In this generation, people often covered up themselves to look good,

because the outer beauty is what often caught others attention first. I’m sure most of us are choosing things that

are more appealing to understand first, because we get attracted to it. Just like today’s contemporary

architecture, with the help of technologies and software, architecture today become the playground for the

leading architects to explore, but I would say, to play with, forms. The more sexy a building looks like, the more it

gets recognized. It’s like the real inner structures are doing the work but the deceptive forms outside are getting

the fame. I think this is how the world goes today.

I believe that the trend of architecture fashion today are more leaning towards deceptive. There are a lot of

famous commercial buildings and works from famous architects are good examples of deceptive architecture,

such as Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Zaha Hadid’s Heydar Aliyev

Center and Jørn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House. All These Buildings looked stunningly beautiful, well sugarcoated

with the exterior surfaces, but those surfaces are non-structural at all, thus, lack of honesty. Deceptive building express the exterior aesthetic values.
