BODY AND LANDSCAPE AS WAYS OF SEEING. The talk is introduced by ArchiBlur Lab founder Eric Chen. The talk is mainly discuss about he trying to preserve old building and house in Taiwan with different way of architecture. He spent a long time observing different cities in Taiwan trying to find out how the local people view and feel the cities and how can his creation benefit local people. Eric and his team then introduced a series of moving architecture project named Urban Archipelago.
in his project there are total of 10 units of what he calls “movable architecture” a structure mainly build from steal frames that sits on wheels, each are different with different purpose and uses. "Family Story House", "Art Exhibition Hall" and "Photography Time Machine", are The first 3 units. The creative team intends to develop an architectural scale that is able to drift and change between the body, the city, and the landscape, transforms different areas into theaters, school zones and
stages.
Project no.4 (science garden) was set at a primary school at the Zhu Bei river in Taiwan. The project is an interesting unit that harvest crops such as vegetables, it also has a roof garden with a pipe that runs to the top to water the plants. The project aims for the kids in the primary school to play and interact with the architecture during their break at half period.
Project 5 and 6 was incorporated into a hospital at Lu Gang town. He mentioned that taiwan consist alot of elderly people and hospital is important in the community, this assemble act as a caring system to take care of either ill or health. The Moving Garden are also separated into three compartments, first, garden area, second, the rooms and lastly the big table area. The room in the center, he got the idea from the hospital where usually we see a doctor and a patient and in between is a glass partition.
The third room is some sort of discussion room.
These three projects are actually to challenge the relationship of the environment and human body. it consonant with the natural and power of human, amount of power between the two is the conflict, adaption is imitation and it is also a destruction. Wind house mainly is storing power around the ocean line. And Moving Garden is a portable garden with power and water collected from No7 and 9. And the Water House is capture the raining water surround the ocean line.
The 10th project is a landscape reconstruction, it a last project of the series. This project is in the genealogy network of the collection and archival re-production, the urban archipelago projects is aggregated and renamed integrally, forming the internal relationship and the connection relation with each other, and cooperating with various experts and scholars and artists to form a multi-level landscape construction, towards a temporary settlement generation.
In a nutshell, I find that this talk was very inspiring for a young architect like myself to think and create something different. The relation between the human body and the landscape was clearly shown in these few projects, as urban areas starts to develop more and more in crowded countries like Taiwan these could play a vital role in public spaces. It shows how as an architect, our role is not to solve a problem when it arises but to look and plan ahead of everyone, we shape the cities and landsca
